Alexander Findlay Macdonald was born on September 15, 1825 in the Scottish hamlet of Camas-Luinie, Parish of Kintail, Ross-shire, Scotland.

He left Liverpool, England in 1854 for the United States and arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 1, 1854.

In 1885, he left Mesa, Arizona to pioneer and help settle LDS members in Mexico.

He died on March 23, 1903 in Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico.
